zstick now available!

Post by skiv71 on Mon Jul 28, 2014 9:09 am

Hi Guys!

You can now use the Z-Wave.me USB Stick (Zstick with Z-way) and do away with the Raspberry PI/RaZberry.

You'll need core version >= 1.030.

The zstick provides a cheaper, simpler and more reliable gateway into the world of Z-Wave.

Once you're zstick is detected (must be plugged into the netusb server) you can access the z-way server via...

http://bmslink:8183

Should you need it, the system does support multiple zsticks, each with independent z-way server instances.

At present, the z-way server listen's on port 8x83, where x is the logical order of discovery.

i.e. if you have 2 zsticks, you can access them on ports 8183 and 8283.

Once you've got the zstick up and running, the interface is the same as the razberry interface, but you'll choose 'zstick' instead.

Thanks

Neil

I have given up all hope of getting the Razberry working, I think I've got one from the duff batch. Bought myself a zstick now but still cannot get BMSLink to detect it.
Can the stick be plugged direct in to the PC which hosts bmslink or does it need to be on the network hosted by another device?

Hi Wes,

I did read on the Z-Wave.me forum's that some PCB's had issue's, but I forget the exact post.

Although the Z-Stick is a more reliable choice, you should still be able to get the Razberry board to work.

I'm assuming BMS Link is detecting the z-way-server running on the PI? If so, it then starts the appropriate software.

I'm available if need be to assist with this.

Regarding the Z-stick, it needs to be plugged into the net usb server (same as used with the rfx433 unit).

Hi Wes,

I was introduced to the Z-Stick and love it. I have mine plugged into a netusb unit from Maplin. It plugs into my switch directly from my router and then you can plug USB's directly into that.

It was pretty much plug and play if I am honest.

Have you got yours up and running yet?

I have ordered a network sub server today, so hopefully all will be working soon.
I have tried installing virtual here on my nas but that did not seem to work at all.
I am assuming that once the netusb is installed with the zstick then bmslink will detect it automatically.

Which NetUSB did you go for?

Yeh once plugged in, the system just saw it with no issues at all.

Aaaaargh!!
Device cannot start code 10

Still no luck, I'm using the maplin 4 port net usb server.
I've installed the software that came with the server.
Pc can see the zzstick but windows driver fails with code 10 error.
Anyone have any suggestions.
My Razberry I think seems to be from the duf batch but I was hoping the zzstick would work.

Ok cool, you have the same one as me. I never installed any software, nothing was needed, it was just plug and play.

Hi Wes,

How have you installed this net usb server?

Code 10 sounds like a windows error?

No software is required to be installed anywhere.

Just pop the net usb server on the LAN, insert the zstick into a free port and restart the BMS Link instance.

The system should find it and present it in the 'super' main page so you can note the serial number.

I'd like to assist with the razberry if possible?

Regards,

Neil

I never really bother with the little CD's that come with products like that.

Neil sorted my Razberry, he is your man.

Do you not need to install a virtual com port to be able to install the Zway software?

If you're planning on using the zstick inside bmslink, the z-way-server is built in and ready to roll Smile

If the system detects a zstick, it starts an instance of z-way-server, which you can access via http://bmslink:8183

Just completed a clean install and now ddwrt isn't detected correctly.
Removed the usb server software, now when the zstick is in the net usb I'm getting strange errors in the vmware window and bmslink won't start.

What Net USB devices are you guys using.

I have a Maplin 4 port unit which is giving me all sorts of errors in the VM window and prevents BMSlink from starting, as soon as I remove the Zstick all starts fine.

Hi Wes,

Sounds like you have the right unit.

I've just messaged you on skype, so we can sort this once and for all Smile
